About Northallerton Camera Club

The club has, with breaks during WWII, met continuously since its inauguration in 1933 and our members enjoy a dynamic programme with an interesting and varied series of events throughout each season. Every evening is a pleasant social occasion, at which members can share tips and experiences on all aspects of photography.

We meet in the Methodist Church Hall at Brompton near Northallerton, where we enjoy excellent facilities for our members. We only ask that members, arriving in their cars park with consideration for local residents, as we are located in the middle of the village. Please DO NOT park on the grass, this is an offence.

Members of the club provide up to three evening’s entertainment each year to help raise funds for the church. Since the 1960’s the club has made a practice of assembling slide shows from contributions by its members, which we then take out and show to local groups and organisations. Our latest offering is entitled “A to Z Around North Yorkshire” and became available last season, during our “75th Anniversary” year.

We also enjoy friendly relationships with neighbouring clubs; enjoying joint meetings on occasions, as well as competing with some of them, either individually or collectively at regional events.

The club was a founder member of the NYSD (North Yorkshire & South Durham Photographic Association) in 1952 and is still active in the organisation. We have competed in their Annual Competitions and have met with considerable success, winning both the Prints and Slides Sections on a number of occasions and we have been declared the Overall Winners three times, the latest being in 2005.

In 1993 we joined the NCPF (Northern Counties Photographic Federation) and became affiliated to the PAGB (Photographic Alliance of Great Britain).

In the Federation’s Annual Competitions we have enjoyed considerable success with the club winning the “Galloway Rose Bowl” for the best club entry of Slides on no less than eight occasions, the latest being in 2009. In 2008, for the first time we won the “Bewick Trophy” for the best club entry of Colour Prints. In 2009 we came joint first in the Electronic Images competition, held for the first time this year.

In the Federation’s Club Championships we have won the Slide Trophy on six occasions, the latest being in 2008. The clubs placed first and second in the competition are invited to represent the Federation at the PAGB National Club Slide Championships, each year, and on that basis we have competed there ten times out of the last eleven years, reaching the finals on six occasions. In the Prints we have been placed second twice and as a result have also represented the Federation two occasions at the PAGB National Print Championships. In 2009 the Slides Trophy was changed to a Projected Digital Image Trophy; that being said we still won it and so once again, with also coming second in the Prints we represent the Federation at both National Championships this year.
